“Sometimes your joy is the source of your smile and sometimes your smile can be the source of your joy.” ― Thich Nhat Hanh
Earth Anthems builds on the belief that we can help make this planet a more peaceful place by creating communal experiences that cultivate love and appreciation for each other and for Mother Earth. Singing along with the album is a delightful way to learn the melodies with friends and family.
Some anthems honor Indigenous peoples and are an invitation to begin learning about their history and culture. Others provide alternative lyrics to songs you may already know, like 'Ode to Joy', 'O Canada' and 'The Star-Spangled Banner'.
Anthems with Indigenous themes were recorded in collaboration with multi-disciplinary artist Tamara Podemski (Ojibway/Ashkenazi heritage). The children's chorus includes ten kids from KW Glee and KW Grand Philharmonic Kids. You will also hear jazz soprano Mary-Catherine Pazzano, singer-songwriter Pamela J. Gerrand and pianist Rebekah Jordan-Miller. Recordeding engineers included Michael Haas at Inception Studio and
Rick Hutt at Cedar Tree Studio.
“A bird doesn't sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song.” ― Maya Angelou
